How strong is strong enough?

Strength is measured in bits of entropy: each extra bit doubles the guesses an attacker needs. 80 bits is far beyond what any offline cracking rig can exhaust; 100+ bits is comfortably future-proof. A 20-character password from all four character sets gives about 130 bits.

Passphrases trade length for memorability: five random words from a 1,296-word list give about 52 bits, and seven words give over 72. They’re ideal for the few passwords you actually have to type — like your password manager’s master password.

Is anything sent to a server?

No. The page makes no network requests when generating. Open DevTools → Network and click “Generate” to see for yourself.

Why avoid look-alike characters?

Characters like l, 1, I, O and 0 are easy to confuse when reading a password aloud or copying it by hand. Removing them costs a little entropy, so add a few characters to compensate.

What does “at least one of each” do?

It guarantees that every character type you selected appears at least once, which some sites require. Positions are then shuffled securely so no pattern is introduced.
